How Lab is structured

How Lab is structured

What can you expect in Lab?

Learning and applying anatomy and physiology is a dynamic process. It is virtually impossible to understand physiology without observing these processes in action, carrying out experiments, and learning to relate these processes back to the anatomy or histology.  Therefore, you will be performing a variety of experiments, activities, and dissections this quarter in your laboratory section. In the midst of these activities you must remember that good science is just as much about asking the right questions, testing and observing as it is about finding the “right answers”.  That is, you should be learning from the process as well as from the results.

Pre-Lab Work

To be fully prepared for each lab, you will do a Pre-Lab activity to ensure you are well-prepared for the lab exercises coming up for the week.

You will use the Visible Body application to explore the anatomy of the system we are covering and then complete a short quiz or paper assignment to check your understanding.

You will be asked to be prepared for a mini-quiz check-in at the start of class that pulls a few questions from the Pre-Lab.

It is critical that you arrive on time to class so that you can earn credit for these Lab check-ins at the start of class since we will begin promptly.

Lab Reports

In class, you will have Lab Reports that you complete throughout each lab. These are due by the end of the lab session and must be handed into me. I collect 1 lab report per group and Lab exit tickets from every member of the group. I will return your report/exit ticket within 1 week with comments.

Lab Assessments

The last component of your lab grade are Lab Assessments.

We will not have formal lab practicals in this course.

We will have an in-class hands on activity that will review the last module of lab content.

More instructions will be given in-class.

What you will need for lab:

  • We will not have a formal lab manual that you need to purchase.
  • Note-taking materials including pens/pencil, paper, and/or tablet or laptop.
  • Regular and reliable access to the internet and printing for lab activities, homework assignments and class lecture notes. You will need access to internet both at home and during class.
